Why does Professional Development Matter?

As the pandemic brought a tightening of budgets we saw spending on travel and professional development activities were the first items to be cut. I am proud of the SUNY CPD Model which, through memberships, campuses are able to take advantage of free and low-cost training opportunities. Because of their SUNY CPD investment, Member Campuses were able to continue PD activities by using their CPD General and CPD Technical Training Points to pay for any associated fees.

We have seen budget cuts accompanied by many employees reassessing their careers and loyalty to their organizations. The past 24 months has certainly brought unprecedented change to higher education, but as Aaron Basko states in his Chronicle of Higher Education piece, The Case for Requiring Professional Development (1/31/22), "Professional Development is not a "nice to have" but "your institution’s secret weapon to keep its competitive edge in tough times."

So why does PD matter?

Demonstrates that an organization values its employees, encouraging organizational loyalty

Increases innovation and creative problem solving

Avoids an insular view and outdated ways of working

Creates a leadership pipeline and enables succession planning

Creates an competitive advantage for the institution

Thank you for your continued support of SUNY CPD and to your employees growth and success. Join us in promoting the importance of PD and Training as an essential function of your campus and our system as we weather changes together.

Have a great semester,

- Lisa Raposo, Interim Director

CPD Unveils Group Pricing

Due an increase in campus requests for customized and cohort based programs, CPD has put in place a Group Pricing Option for select programs, allowing a greater number of people from one campus to participate in a program that coincides with specific campus priorities.  This will also allow our campuses to budget more effectively in anticipation.

10 - 19 people = 15% discount
20 - 29 people = 20% discount
Greater than 30 people = Customized Experience
