Professional Development: A Pillar in Managing Change!

Learning and Development plays an important role during times of change.

The need to be flexible and adjust in the current uncertain climate has motivated people to prioritize and look within at where they may need assistance to get through these challenging times. Not surprisingly, our SUNY community has turned to professional development and knowledge building in order to increase its ability to adjust to the new work environment and respond in a positive way to the changes happening throughout Higher Education.

Academic Year 2020-2021 resulted in a 20% increase in programming at SUNY CPD, driven by campus and system needs. We continued to capture and create digital learning materials and many are found on the CPD YouTube Channel, which saw a 49% increase in usage.

For certain, SUNY has a desire to learn and build our skills, as evidenced by the fact that all of SUNY CPD Certificate Courses, that began on January 4, 2022 are running with full enrollment. Several courses generated waiting lists, and we are currently working to create additional course sections.

Take a look at our 2020-2021 Annual Report statistics for more information and to see how we are growing our services to better support you and your colleagues.

Have a great semester,

- Lisa Raposo, Interim Director

Did You Miss Our Holiday Recipe Book?

We published our annual holiday recipe book last month, have you seen it? Even though it's January now, it’s still the season of baking, cooking and comfort food. If you are looking for a new recipe to try, take a spin through these staff picks, directly from your friends at the CPD.

Changes to SUNY Learning Commons/Workplace Community Platform

As you are aware, our time with the SUNY Workplace (SUNY Learning Commons) platform is coming to an end on March 31, 2022. You are free to log in to Workplace and continue working with your communities and chatting with your colleagues. If your group has not made plans to leave the platform, please reach out to kelly.williamson@suny.edu for assistance. You should continue saving your content and backing-up valuable files and videos that do not exist outside of Workplace. You can also chose to download your personal data and/or delete your account at any time.

If you are not already aware, we are re-establishing the Workplace groups in the Communities (formerly Yammer) app nestled inside Microsoft Teams. We will be announcing more updates, as well as training opportunities soon. Our commitment to creating a SUNY-wide knowledge base while supporting the growth of Communities of Practice across the system is unwavering; we appreciate your patience during this time.

SUNY Student Success Summit Call for Proposals

The online submission portal is now open for the 2022 Student Success Summit: Holistic Approaches to Student Success, being held virtually May 4 - 6, 2022. This online summit brings together three SUNY Communities of Practice: Advising, Applied Learning, and Student Success.

We are requesting proposals on topics relevant to student success, applied learning, and advising specifically, but we also ask that as you craft your presentations, you keep the overall themes of collaboration and equity in mind. It is our goal that each presentation addresses the equity implications genuinely, with thought given to ensuring that the diverse needs of all student populations are considered.

Only SUNY campuses may submit proposals. Deadline to submit is February 4, 2022.

Additional Dates Added for Packback Information Sessions

The discussion tool, Packback, is currently being used by faculty throughout SUNY to improve student engagement and critical thinking in online discussions. As a result of strong SUNY faculty and student satisfaction, SUNY has partnered with Packback through a Master Service Agreement that provides a variety of pathways for institutional and faculty adoption.

We are partnering with Packback to bring you information sessions. This session will cover both the basics of the Packback platform and A.I., best practices for implementation, as well as the different pathways for adoption by institutions and faculty.
